About Jean Claude Boutrouille
In his own words...
Born in Orleans, France. Attended high School in Lycee Pothier (with Alain Corneau) and then Faculte de Pharmacie de Paris. Regularly frequented the Cinematheque de la Rue D'Ulm. (300 movies a year with Bertrand Tavernier, Barbet Schroeder, BP Guiremand, Jean Serge Breton, and the poet Yves Martin.)
Spent two years as sergeant instructor at the end of the Algerian war.
In Paris, I was listening to the music of my neighbor Luc Ferrari, going to the Cinematheque or diving at the Club Mediterrannee (or with the former commando de marine, Bernard Lacosta)
Was a pharmacist in Orleans, Paris, Cannes, Mougins and almost twenty years in Martinique at Schoelcher and Fort de France.
My wife Jacqueline was family physician in Fort de France, where our daughter was born. At the end of the Mitterrand years, we decided to vote with our feet. In 1990, we moved to the United States to Charleston, S.C. We are proud US citizens since 1998. We now reside in Lighthouse Point, FL.
My wife Jacqueline is now a psychiatrist and my daughter Benedicte, an attorney. Always south and seaside! (“A man is nothing without a boat..” – Pierre Schoendorfer - Le Crabe Tambour.)
Interested in literature (Updike, Bellow, Henry Miller, Nabokov, Sade, Proust, Celine, Queneau, Boris Vian), cinema (Lang, Minnelli, Preminger, Delmer Daves, Godard, Truffaut), diving and boating, Jazz (Coltrane, Mingus, Miles Davis, The Art Ensemle of Chicago, Albert Ayler, Eric Dolphy), classical music (Richard Strauss, Berg, Martinu, Janacek, Debussy) and fine cuisine. (Le Lyonnais, Chez Allard).
Since I was young, I knew all the great museums of the world: El Prado, Centre Pompidou, MOMA, Musee Picasso. Some of artists that intrigued me: Vermeer, Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, Klee, Nicolas de Stael, Dubuffet, Balthus, William de Koonig, Edward Hopper, Tamayo, Gerhard Ritcher! Later, I became an art collector. It started with Regis Dho, who we met in Egypt in 1983. Later, I discovered Guido Chire Balderrama in his atelier in La Paz, Peru. Then came Matta, Aleshinsky, James Coignard, Jamali, Ronald Searle, Elmar Rojas, Brigitte Bussutil, Ginette Beaufrand, Lauro Salas, Ramon Miranda, and other South American painters. When traveling in South and Central America, I look to buy the works of local artists.
Some years ago, I became a painter myself, self taught no less. Influences in the beginning: Nicolas de Stael, Jac Kephart. Recently, I have started to do large format. My work says it all, and soon enough, you will have the chance to experience it yourself, the natural beauty and brilliance that it radiates...
Truly,
Jean Claude Boutrouille
